This Friday, Journal of Environmental Law, an academic publication of the University of Oxford, published an alert note, or Expression of Concern (EOC), regarding a quote incorrectly attributed to our Executive Director, Victoria Alonso..

Specifically, Victoria Alonso was cited in the paper Ecological legal fictions: land subdivisions, property and conservation in Southern Chilewhich addresses the scope and limitations of the Derecho Real de Conservación (DRC).

This erroneous reference is particularly sensitive both for our organization and for the professional integrity of our Executive Director, as it does not reflect her views on the implementation of the DRC or on the work carried out by Fundación Tierra Austral.

For this reason, we find it important to share this clarification and to communicate that we are currently working to make the appropriate corrections.

As an organization, we welcome debate around the contributions and challenges of the DRC, as we consider it to be an effective and improvable tool. Likewise, we also believe it is essential to ensure that these discussions are conducted rigorously, so that they may effectively contribute to strengthening private conservation across its different realities.
