Fundación Tierra Austral participates in the 13th Latin American Congress on Voluntary Conservation in Panamá
Fundación Tierra Austral participated in the 13th Latin American Congress on Voluntary Conservation, held in Panama City and organized by the Asociación Panameña de Reservas Naturales Privadas, with the support of the International Land Conservation Network (ILCN).
The event brought together over 130 conservation leaders from 16 Latin American countries, including representatives from the public sector, non-governmental organizations, indigenous communities, academia, and landowners, providing a space for dialogue and collaboration on the growth and challenges of private and collective conservation in the region.
Representing Tierra Austral were Victoria Alonso, Executive Director; Henry Tepper, Senior Advisor; and Amanda Alonso, Conservation Expert. During the congress, we had the opportunity to present the experience of the Derecho Real de Conservación (Chilean version of a Conservation Easement) as a key legal tool to formalize and strengthen voluntary conservation in Chile. The presentation was part of several panels that included experiences from Mexico and Costa Rica, highlighting the progress and lessons learned in implementing legal mechanisms for private nature protection.
