Working together for conservation: A Day at the San Jorge Reserve with our friends from Gabri
Tierra Austral has established an exciting partnership with Gabri, a prominent Chilean gin producer company. We are grateful to the company for its commitment to conservation, and excited about the organizing volunteer activities at which employees of the company provide hands-on ecological management assistance at our DRC-protected properties. These volunteer work days, not only strengthen Tierra Austral’s bond with our conservation landowners and private protected areas, they bring together helping hands, stories, laughter and a shared purpose. We look forward to organizing these events throughout the year, and to building a community of care and commitment to nature.
Recently, members of the Tierra Austral staff joined the the Gabri team and their friends from Yarí at the San Jorge Reserve in Valparaíso Region. Together we worked to clear the Piedras Tacitas educational nature trail. The trail is of great ecological and cultural significance, because it is named for and contains stones that were used by Indigenous communities to grind materials and extract natural dyes for a variety of uses.
When the group from Gabri, Yari and Tierra Austral, started their work, the trail was covered in branches and leaves, so we focused on clearing it and restoring it to optimal condition for future visitors. The Tierra Austral team also used its time at San Jorge to conduct field monitoring.
Gabri and Tierra Austral are proud of our work to highlight the unique importance of San Jorge, and to create a new opportunity for visitors to learn about the history of the community and the reserve. We are deeply grateful for our partnership with Gabri, which inspires and and remind us that, by working together, we can protect what truly matters.
